HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (ACN) The inspiring legacy of the Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez and his decease 12 years ago on March 5th―declared Latin American and Caribbean Dignity Day―were evoked at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) by Orlando Maneiro Gaspar, Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba, who stressed that Chavez is remembered for his revolutionary commitment and his fight for the future of Venezuela and the inception of the Bolivarian thought of unity.
“His special relationship with Cuba consolidated a strategic, ideological and personal alliance that has left a very special legacy, now that US imperialism intensifies its aggressiveness against the peoples”, he underlined. “We follow on the path that he opened with a collective revolution that sowed values, ideas and a historical project”.
On her end, Noemí Rabaza Fernández, ICAP's First Vice-President, remarked that Chavez and Fidel are two giants with the same goal who created something more than cooperation to give us a Latin American and Caribbean family and bring to life the dreams of Bolivar and Marti.
“The criminal blockade of Cuba is decades old, and Venezuela stands up to threats and illegal sanctions, as the empire attacks both countries because they prove that it’s possible to have another America where sovereignty is not negotiable”, she pointed out. “Cuba and Venezuela are not alone; we will defend peace and fight fascism disguised as democracy, the one that persecutes social leaders, criminalizes protest, destroys Palestine, and intends to take away our future”.
