HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (ACN) Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, met with Hussein Ali Mwinyi, president of Zanzibar, during the second day of his visit to the United Republic of Tanzania.
At the headquarters of the Zanzibar State House, Lazo Hernández stressed the importance of deepening the historic bilateral ties inspired by the friendship between Fidel Castro and Julius Nyerere, reiterated Cuba's willingness to expand cooperation, and thanked Tanzania for its support to the end of the U.S. blockade and the exclusion of Cuba from the list of "State Sponsors of Terrorism".
Mr. Mwinyi, who sent greetings to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, acknowledged Cuba's solidarity with Africa, especially in the field of health care, and reasserted Tanzania's solidarity with the island.
Lazo Hernández also held official talks with Zubeir Ali Maulid, head of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation, establish of friendship groups, and foster bilateral trade, and met later on with Cuban aid workers in Zanzibar and toured the Biolarvicide Plant in Kibaha, a project supported by Cuban specialists to fight malaria.
