HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel recalled the legacy of Hugo Chávez, "Cuba's best friend", 12 years after his decease at the early age of 58, and remarked that the late Venezuelan leader's phrase, "One leaves but does not leave", is confirmed today in his valuable revolutionary work.
"Chavez lives on in the hearts of his people and of all those who believe that a better world is possible, if we fight to achieve it," Díaz-Canel wrote.
Born in Sabaneta, state of Barinas, on July 28, 1954, Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias won the presidency of Venezuela in December 1998 and, once in office in February 1999, called for a Constituent Assembly to draft a new Constitution based on freedoms and rights until then denied to most Venezuelans that his people approved on December 15, 1999 following a referendum.
Chávez died of prostate cancer in Caracas on March 5, 2013.
