Guyana reasserts economic interests in Cuban province

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Feb 19 (ACN) At a meeting with authorities of the province of Villa Clara, Halim Majeed, ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to Cuba, confirmed his country’s interest in strengthening economic cooperation with this region.

“Solidarity sounds very nice in words, but it’s excellent in action, and that’s what we have to strive for”, the Guyanese diplomat said in statements to the press, in reference to the ties between his country and Cuba in the fields of public health and agricultural development, especially with the Azcuba Business Group and the province’s Sugar Cane Research Institute (INICA).

On his end, Minel Linares Rodríguez, regional coordinator of programs and economic goals, presented Mr. Majeed with his program of visits to and meeting with local entities, including the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas and its low-carbon cement factory, as well as a number of enterprises.

December 8, 1972 marked the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Guyana, which have repeatedly ratified their bonds of friendship and cooperation.

Guyana has firmly supported the Cuban people’s long-standing struggle against the 60-plus years old U.S. blockade of Cuba.
