Cuba signed MOUs on industrial property with several countries

 HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 16 (ACN) In 2024, the Cuban Industrial Property Office (OCPI) signed MOUs with several foreign institutions to boost a project related to the management and marketing of Science and Technology Parks (STP) of the IT sector.

The said agreements were signed between OCPI and the STPs Tecnopuci and Porto Digital from Brazil, Entertech Teknokent and Bilisim Vadisi from Türkiye, and a center in Monterrey, Mexico.

OCPI director María de los Ángeles Sánchez Torres said that her center is looking at research projects with the University of Havana (UH) and the Center of Neurosciences of Cuba and the participation of patent examiners with a view to seeking the state of the art and consultancy on Cuban patent legislation, and patentable subject matters in Cuba and abroad.

OCPI has updated 16 bulletins of technological alerts related to food safety, renewable energy, construction, environment, industry 4.0, and the circular economy―all available on the entity's website―and implemented the WIPO-DAS (Digital Access Service) service for national applications used by the BIOCUBAFARMA centers and the UH’s Foundation for Innovation and Development.

Cuba joined WIPO’s database on trademarks and industrial designs and its tool to search for AI-based trademark images and has used the WIPO-FILE System for online order procedures for the benefit of the digitalization of files of patents, trademarks and other distinctive signs.

OCPI has also improved the MSME portal of its website and incorporated the WIPO tool for integration into the Latin American Network of Intellectual Property and Gender, in addition to the publication of statistics on patents and gender and life stories of Cuban women scientists.
