President of the Cuban parliament attends provincial council meeting in central-eastern territory

CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Feb 14 (ACN) Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, notified in Camagüey the Agreement X-113 of the Cuban Parliament, which approved the rendering of account of the Provincial Government of People's Power before the legislative body, next July.

Attending the provincial council meeting, he was interested in decisive indicators for the territory, such as the progress of the sugar harvest, about which he learned that, despite the 41 days of delay, the production of more than 600 tons of sugar has been achieved so far.

Lazo Hernandez also asked about the plan to produce more than 23,000 tons of sugar, the sowing of 47 hectares of cane in January and another 75 hectares this month, the yield at the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes sugar mill and the production of more than 1,509 tons of molasses.

Similarly, he asked about the province's efforts to be self-sufficient in rice, a commitment achieved by the municipalities of Vertientes, Minas, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes and Sierra de Cubitas, although he insisted on the need to change the mentality to continue growing in areas dedicated to the cultivation of that cereal and guarantee at least that of the standard family basket.

In this regard, he considered that the food program must be taken to the popular councils and the contracting processes must be carried out more effectively, so that intermediaries are eliminated and prices are more affordable for the people.

Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, governor of the province, added that as part of the decentralization of competences, the 12 municipal agro-industrial companies created in Camagüey have the duty to be strengthened, in addition to leading the contracting and control of commercialization, and pointed out that 6,827 producers contracted more, although it is necessary to correct the delays in the payment to the farmers and ensure the collection of the harvests by Acopio.

Regarding the solution to the voters' concerns, the head of the Cuban Parliament spoke with the municipal presidents, and recalled that these worries of the people should be included in the plan of the economy for the current year, although to provide an answer to them it is necessary to increase the income to the State budget.

Likewise, he urged to strengthen the role of the delegate, since it constitutes the basis of the Cuban political system, which, he pointed out, we must protect with unity.

At the end of the meeting, Lazo Hernandez went to the Santa Rosa development area, in Vertientes, where he exchanged with the twins Jesus and Leonardo Lezcano Capote about the production of plantain, cassava and sweet potato in the 67 hectares they have cultivated today.
In those lands he appreciated the application of science, from the use of organic matter, the positive yields they achieve and the permanent dedication to such a decisive task as food production.

Later, he verified the progress in the execution of the Luaces photovoltaic solar park, in the same municipality, with a capacity to generate some 21.8 megawatts when it is synchronized in April this year

He was informed that the piles are more than 90 % installed, and at the same time, more than 180 tables have been installed out of the 1,638 required for this enclave.
