Cuban authorities ask to produce as much as possible in the country

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 11 (ACN) The mission to produce in the country everything that can replace imports, for the sake of technological sovereignty, was underlined today in the evaluation of the Ministry of Industries (Mindus) in the presence of Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic.

Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, summarizing at the Palace of the Revolution that meeting on the main results of 2024 and projections for 2025, pointed out that in the midst of a very complex scenario, it is necessary to continue developing the national industry.

He highlighted its broad participation in priorities such as food production, the recovery of the national electro-energy system and the sugar agro-industry, which need parts, equipment and technologies, all of which presupposes making the most of the manufacturing facilities, and better applying science and innovation.

Marrero asked the directors and specialists of the Mindus business groups to evaluate how, based on local solutions, the high demand for spare parts can be guaranteed, given the paralysis faced today by several industries, such as transportation.

He said that despite the positive results of 2024, it is necessary to advance in the automation of processes, in the modernization of machinery, in the recovery of raw materials, in the use of solid waste and electronic scrap, and in the production of containers and packaging.

The Prime Minister also said that the companies of this organization play a major role in attracting foreign currency, especially those whose products can be marketed in stores for that purpose and in the Mariel Special Development Zone.

He expressed the need not only to manufacture tractors, but also to improve or modernize the more than 40,000 tractors in the hands of state and private producers, as well as to promote the production of motorcycles and electric equipment, in order to reduce costs in the national market.

The report presented during the evaluation, under the leadership of Eloy Alvarez, minister of the sector, and with interventions of the directors, in addition to gathering achievements and deficiencies, emphasizes the need to strengthen the political work, the work with the cadres and the fight against crime and corruption.

Strengthening the role of the state-owned company, continuing to promote its productive chain with the rest of the economic actors, the implementation of the industrial policy as well as the participation of foreign investment in joint ventures, are projections for 2025.
