President of Cuban Parliament ratifies condemnation of U.S. measures

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 2 (ACN) In a post on X, Political Bureau member Esteban Lazo, President of the Cuban Parliament and of the Council of State, ratified the condemnation of the new U.S. decisions taken as part of what that government calls the reestablishment of a tough Cuba policy and which described as further steps to asphyxiate the Cuban economy and cause harm to its people.

On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reinstated Cuba's Restricted List, added another Cuban entity (Orbit, S.A.), and revoked the suspension of the possibility of filing lawsuits in U.S. courts under Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

According to a statement issued by the Cuban Foreign Ministry on Saturday, the purpose of these measures is to intimidate foreign investors and prevent them from contributing to Cuba's economic development and the well-being of Cubans on pain of being sued in U.S. courts.

Likewise, they want to close all sources of external income to the Cuban economy as a whole, tamper with the capacity of all public and private economic actors to provide goods and services, and damage even more the living standards of the population, already affected by the blockade and the additional measures imposed during Donald Trump's first term in office.

The statement also remarks that the overall purpose of the U.S. is "to upset and destabilize society and to try to achieve the often dreamed of but never accomplished purpose of overthrowing the Revolution for purposes of domination and chastisement”.
