Diaz-Canel: Admiration and respect for the Cuban Apostle grows every year

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (ACN) The flame of admiration and respect for the Apostle of our independence, who is also the Apostle of our profound anti-imperialism, grows every year, declared Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, today on the occasion of the 172nd anniversary of the birth of National Hero Jose Marti.

Marti lives in all those who do not allow themselves to be dazzled or intimidated by "the turbulent and brutal North that despises us," said the president on X.

Through the same social network, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Cuba, highlighted the legacy of the Apostle as a guide of the Revolution and an example for the new generations.

The tribute of our people, on the 172nd anniversary of his birth, to Jose Marti, the National Hero of Cuba, the intellectual author of the Moncada, he remarked.

For his part, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, recalled the fruitful and self-sacrificing work of Jose Marti on the anniversary of his birth.

His thought is the basis of the humanist, patriotic, anti-imperialist and Latin American and Caribbean work of the Cuban Revolution, stressed the Cuban foreign minister on X.

Jose Julian Marti Perez (1853-1895) is considered a Cuban of universal projection who surpassed the borders of the era in which he lived to become the greatest Spanish-American political thinker of the 19th century.

In 1880 he arrived in New York, where he was appointed member of the Cuban Revolutionary Committee and during 1882 he was in charge of reorganizing the revolutionaries.

Two years later he met with Maximo Gomez and Antonio Maceo and began to collaborate in an insurrectionary plan designed and directed by them.

On March 25, 1895, he launched in Santo Domingo the memorable Manifiesto de Montecristi and on April 11 of that same year, he disembarked with Máximo Gómez and four other patriots in Playitas, Oriente province.

He received the rank of Major General of the Liberation Army on April 15 and in May he wrote to Manuel Mercado a letter that is considered his political testament.

On May 14, 1895 he signed the Circular to the chiefs and officers of the Liberating Army, the last of the organizational documents of the war, which he also elaborated with Gomez.

Marti is considered a brilliant journalist, essayist, poet, diplomat in the service of several countries, professor of English, French, Italian and German literature and History of Philosophy, polyglot, art and literature critic, translator and language renovator.

Precursor of the literary movement called modernism, among his main works are: Ismaelillo (1882), Versos libres (1882), Versos sencillos (1891) and Flores del destierro (1878-1895).
