HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 27 (ACN) As is tradition every year, tonight the youth and the people will unite in a moving tribute to commemorate the 172nd anniversary of the birth of National Hero Jose Marti, a distinguished symbol of independence and eternal icon of the struggle for justice and freedom.
In Havana, the historic March of the Torches will illuminate the streets from the University Steps to the Marti Forge to remind the world of the validity of the apostle's ideas, his deep love for the homeland and the depth of his example that inspires new generations of Cubans.
On this occasion, the event will be dedicated to the 172nd anniversary of Jose Marti's birth, the 130th anniversary of his fall in battle at Dos Rios, the 72nd anniversary of the first March and to the enduring example of its protagonists, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the Centennial Generation.
Under the slogan "An ever-young fire", Cuban leaders, members of the Federation of University Students (FEU), the Young Communist League (UJC by its Spanish acronym), solidarity activists from around the world, participants of the 5th International Conference for the Balance of the World and other sectors of society will gather at the starting point.
