Havana, Jan 24 (ACN) No victims were reported in a partial collapse on Friday of the building hosting the Higher Design Institute (ISDI) in the Centro Habana municipality, according to preliminary assessments by local authorities.
ISDI Dean Sergio Luis Peña told the Cuban News Agency that a controlled demolition process was underway in a deteriorated section of the building, and a vibration in the structure caused the collapse of part of the building facade.
The area affected was not the section hosting students, said dean and added that when the wall collapse occurred the workers were not at the place; no neighbor resulted affected either he said.
The building can be refurbished but it was first necessary to demolish a section to carry out repairs without any inconvenience, he explained.
Local political and government authorities flocked to the place soon after the wall collapsed.
