Statement by the Cuban Journalists' Association against Trump's outrages

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) The Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC by its Spanish acronym) issued a statement rejecting the hostile policy of Donald Trump, the new president of the United States, who on the first day of his second term included Cuba once again in the unilateral list of states that sponsor terrorism.

The president who has returned to the White House is the same one who, through lies and manipulation in an unceasing media war, in addition to tightening the blockade against the Cuban people, tried to annihilate them in multiple ways, including depriving them of oxygen, masks and other resources to face a lethal pandemic, the statement points out, which, because of its importance, is transmitted in full below.

In the premiere of his new presidential term, Donald Trump has shown the criminal attitude he already displayed in the previous one. Without any moral or legal basis, his brazenness has been displayed on international levels with the media spectacle of an egomaniacal tycoon and convicted felon.
Against Cuba, in particular, the "Republican" has resumed the viciousness with which he had already reinforced the blockade with extreme measures that his "Democrat" predecessor maintained in spite of promises of electoral purposes.

Once again, both the imperialist nature of a system that violates human rights in the world and its accumulated rage in the face of a reality that it has not been able and will not be able to change: Cuba's capacity to defend its sovereignty and the search for the living conditions that its people deserve to have and that the imperialist forces are determined to prevent them from doing so.

In order to deprive it of that achievement, the government of the United States established the blockade more than six decades ago, and one after another of its administrations have seen their efforts fail, although they have caused serious damage to Cuba.

The president who has returned to the White House is the same one who, resorting to lies and manipulation in a media war that never ceases, in addition to tightening the blockade against the Cuban people, tried to annihilate them in multiple ways, even depriving them of oxygen, masks and other resources to face a lethal pandemic.

With creativity and effort Cuba achieved vaccines of proven effectiveness, which continue to deserve worldwide admiration, despite the slanderous propaganda of the same nation that was far from being capable of handling the pandemic as its own people needed, and that has been an accomplice or co-sponsor of monstrosities such as the genocide in Palestine.

It takes a great deal of cynicism to proclaim that the measures taken to strangle the Cuban people seek to defend their freedom. Cuba liberated itself in 1959 against a tyranny supported by the empire that Trump represents today, and the Cuban people will continue to resolutely confront imperialist forces.

If anything, they will ratify his decision to overcome every obstacle that stands in his way, and to do whatever is necessary for the collective good. In this way, it will maintain the dignity that has cost it so much blood and sweat to achieve, in the face of an empire whose outrages portray it in its murderous nature and its irreversible decadence.
