UNEAC condemns new aggression by U.S. government

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 22 (ACN) The Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) issued a statement repudiating what it considered a new act of aggression by the U.S. government against the Cuban people marked by further measures of economic warfare.

UNEAC Statement

We, the Cuban writers and artists, repudiate the new act of aggression of the U.S. government against our people by reestablishing extreme measures of economic warfare and support the Declaration of the Cuban Revolutionary Government.

President Donald Trump is once again making the mistake of trying to subjugate Cuba through coercive measures by automatically and groundlessly revoking former President Biden's decision to remove Cuba from the spurious list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

It is an act of contempt for the truth and against the international community, which had recently celebrated the end of that unjust and arbitrary sanction against Cuba. There is no doubt that what is threatened today is the Homeland, as the world lives in the grips of a wave of cultural colonization and the rise of fascism at international level.

It is a prolonged battle in the field of ideas, thought, values, symbols and culture. In the style of the Monroe Doctrine era and the confrontational Cold War, the U.S. government treats the world with contempt, ignoring the values and culture of its peoples, by trying to strip Panama of its canal, conquer Canada, usurp Greenland, and change the name of the Gulf of Mexico.

The U.S. government remains obsessed with the re-colonization of Cuba. The essence of the bilateral conflict between the two countries has not changed since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution: to regain domination over the nation and transform its political, economic and social system against the Cuban people’s sovereign will to defend their independence and maintain Socialism.

In the face of the current complex international scenario, the direct threats against Our America and against the survival of the nation, we Cuban writers and artists reaffirm the conviction that CUBA SHALL OVERCOME.
