Senior EEAS official pays visit to Cuba

Havana, Jan 22 (ACN) As part of a working visit to Cuba, Pelayo Castro Zuzuárregui, deputy managing director for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS), met with Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, director general of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX).

Both officials shared views about the fourth cycle of implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba, the European Union (EU) and its 27 member states.

According to a note posted by MINREX on its website, the two parties agreed to work on a Road Map to follow up on the actions agreed in the political dialogues and the cooperation subcommittee already held during this cycle and talked about the impact of the U.S. blockade on Cuba and its relations with the EU and its member states.

Pereira Hernandez thanked his guest for the EU’s unanimous support to the UN resolution calling for the end of the said unilateral and unjust policy, as well as for the bloc’s opposition to Cuba’s inclusion in the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.

During his visit, deemed a prelude to the 4th Joint Cuba-EU Committee to be held in the coming months, the EEAS official also met with Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and with representatives of other Cuban agencies.
