Havana, Jan 22 (ACN) In the presence of Army General Raul Castro, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Chief of the National Defense Council, opened the Bastion 2024 Strategic Military Exercise, running till Friday, January 24th.In his opening remarks of the event, Diaz-Canel stressed the importance of the exercise to keep strengthening the country’s military invulnerability.
The drill was originally scheduled to take place last November, but it was put off due to the damage inflicted by hurricanes Oscar in the east and Rafael in the west of the country, followed by two quakes in eastern Cuba.
According to the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, the military exercise provides training to command centers of different military structures in charge of the national and territorial defense, the organization of actions to increase the country’s defense capabilities and the preparation of troops and the people to face different enemy actions.
