HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 20 (ACN) A traffic accident occurred early this morning on the Cayo Coco highway, with a preliminary death toll of six at the time of writing.
According to information from the newspaper Invasor on Facebook, the accident occurred between Moron and the island of Turiguano, due to the collision of two buses.
Hospitals in the municipalities of Moron and Ciego de Avila, in the central province, received today 59 injured victims of the accident.
Dr. Yoenkis Tapia Valido, general director of the Roberto Rodriguez Provincial Hospital in Moron, in statements to the Cuban News Agency, said that at the time of this update there were six fatalities, four at the scene of the accident and two of those treated at the center.
The main causes of the accident victims are related to neurosurgical conditions, bone fractures in upper and lower limbs, and patients with abdominal traumas with splenic rupture, he stated.
Julio Gomez Casanova, first secretary of the Party in the province, and Alfre Menendez Perez, governor, were present at the place of the accident and then at the hospital as soon as the accident was reported.
In this sense, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero assured that the Government is constantly monitoring the evolution of the injured.
He also sent heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
