South American Solidarity Brigade to celebrate its 30th anniversary

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 19 (ACN) Eighty-five members of the South American Solidarity Brigade from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the contingent with a special program in Cuba that includes their participation in both the March of Torches and the VI International Conference for World Balance.

The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) reported that the activists will be welcomed in Havana on Tuesday 21 before they proceed to engage in volunteer work days, hold a meeting against the U.S. blockade, hand in donations for a local hospital, and visit the Fidel Castro Center and several provinces as they learn from the Cuban people about the country’s situation and their resistance to imperialist harassment.

While staying at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in the province of Havana, they will support the reconstruction of buildings and green spaces heavily damaged by Hurricane Rafael last November and attend the conferences “Cuba: 60 years of economic siege” and “U.S. cultural war and political subversion against the island”.

The South Americans are the third solidarity group to come to Cuba this year―after the Australia-New Zealand and the Central American brigades―as part of the global campaign Marathon of Love for Cuba organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Solidarity Network, a project designed to remain active until December 30, 2025, ICAP's 65th anniversary.
