HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 17 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, congratulated Leonor Borrell, who was exalted to the hall of fame of the International Basketball Federation.
She was only 14 years old when she played in the Cuban national team and since then she has only made baskets for glory. Today she became the first Cuban woman in the select group, the president wrote on X.
Borrell, born in the central province of Villa Clara, qualified as the best Cuban basketball player of all time, will be exalted to the Hall of Fame of the International Federation Class of 2025.
She has two Olympic Games (Moscow 1980 and Barcelona 1992) and four World Championships (1983, 1986, 1990 and 1994) and was crowned Pan American champion in San Juan 1979, when she was only 15 years old.
In the 1986 World Cup she was the tournament's top scorer, with an average of 26.7 points per game.
