Díaz-Canel mourns death of officers, NCOs and soldiers

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 15 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said to be grief-stricken by the accident that killed 13 officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers who heroically fought a fire that broke in an army depot in the province of Holguin.

The Head of State also sent his condolences to the families and friends of the fatal victims, who were declared death Wednesday by the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and whom he referred to as heroes who deserve our most heartfelt tribute.

Díaz-Canel linked to his message the note issued by MINFAR about the events, which points out that the difficult situation in the premises as a result of explosions, the ensuing accumulation of gases and the structural damage of the facility made it impossible for anyone to survive or to even reach the place where the 13 comrades were working when an electrical fault caused a short circuit leading up to a fire, according to the commission of inquiry established by the Ministry to that end.
