Cuban Foreign Minister Stresses Failure of US’s Hostile Cuba Policy

Havana, Jan 15 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said that the US administration made recent decisions related to Cuba due to the failure of its foreign policy, which tries to cause the country’s economic and social collapse.

On January 14, 2025, the government of the United States announced the following decisions:

1. Remove Cuba from the State Department list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism;

2. Make use of the presidential faculty to prevent US courts from taking action with regards to lawsuits that might be filed by virtue of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act; and

3. Eliminate the list of restricted Cuban entities that designates a group of institutions which US citizens and institutions are not allowed to make financial transactions with, which has had an impact on third countries.

During a meeting with the national and international press at the Foreign Ministry building in Havana, Rodriguez said that the decision announced by President Joe Biden on Tuesday mirrors the recognition that such policy (on Cuba) is obsolete, fails to reach its goals, and leads to the international isolation of the US and damages its external credibility.

Rodriguez also reiterated Cuba’s willingness to hold a respectful and mutually beneficial dialog with Washington despite the deep differences between the two parties.

He said that Washington’s move was a limited and late measure, despite the electoral promises by Biden during his presidential campaign. Rodriguez also said that the measures can be reverted, though in that case, the world would question the credibility of the US administration.

The Cuban Foreign Minister said that what follows now is lifting the US blockade of Cuba, leave Cubans live in peace, since they defend their independence and sovereignty in the face of any act of interference, the observance of their Constitution and law enforcement, national security, interior order and security
