Cuba continues development of sustainable agriculture

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (ACN) The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) aims to give continuity to projects that drive the country to lead a sustainable agriculture, such as the one dedicated to knowledge for sustainable food security (Consas), which concludes in February this year.

This initiative is part of the Country Program, financed by the European Union, with the aim of improving the coordination of different agricultural stakeholders in an integrated system of resilient food management.

According to the FAO report at the close of 2024, Consas contributed to the strengthening of local food systems, the reduction of losses and the promotion of food and nutrition education.

All the results are due to the implementation of a program to strengthen agricultural extension, technical assistance and innovation actions in four production chains such as vegetables, viands, fruits and small livestock.

The report also states that, to date, the project's objectives have been largely achieved in terms of ensuring gender inclusion, contributing to clean water and sanitation, and promoting affordable and non-polluting energy, as well as responsible production and consumption in climate action.
