HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 12 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Cuban engineers on the national day dedicated to them and urged them to be as innovative and creative as possible in these difficult times.
In his message, Diaz-Canel praised the figure of Francisco de Albear y Fernandez, eminent Spanish engineer of the 19th century who settled in Cuba and whose work produced remarkable economic and social results such as the aqueduct of Havana, named after him and still in operation.
At a ceremony held in the province of Holguín in honor of the Day of the Cuban Engineer, the National Union of Cuban Architects and Construction Engineers (UNAICC) bestowed its Lifetime Achievement Award to several Cuban specialists whose contribution to the qualification of new generations and their commitment to the preservation of the local identity, history and traditions were praised by its national president Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez, Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
