Event on criminal sciences opens in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 10 (ACN) The 11th Symposium of the Cuban Criminalistic Technique and the 4th Day of Biomedical Identification Tecnicrim 2024 kicked off today in Havana with the aim of promoting professional exchange and access to new methods and techniques for a better performance of crime-fighting bodies.

The event, which takes place at the Havana Convention Center, brings together national specialists and more than a dozen countries to discuss issues related to criminal investigation, the application of new technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as expert strategies and due process guarantees, among other topics.

The opening ceremony was led by members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Brigadier General Jesus Manuel Buron Tabit, deputy minister of the Interior (Minint), and Yamila Peña Ojeda, attorney general of the Republic, and Ruben Remigio Ferro, president of the People's Supreme Court, Jose Luis Toledo Santander, president of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power, among other heads of the Minint and authorities of the legal sector.

Colonel Ricardo Valenciano Mecias, head of the Criminalistics Directorate of the Minint, said in his opening remarks that this is a space for dialogue and divulgation of scientific investigation, which is becoming more important nowadays in the face of increasingly complex criminal scenarios.

He emphasized the country's will to expose the experiences resulting from the process of computerization of the criminalistic technique and to learn from the experiences of other countries represented by their delegates to be able to act with the ethics and professionalism required in each situation.

Tecnicrim 2024 opened its doors with a keynote speech by Rosa Mileidy Torres Gomez, General Director of Support to Criminal Investigation and Director of Extortion and Kidnapping of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, on the advances and lessons learned by that nation in this field.
