Havana, Dec 9 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez welcomed Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Togolese Abroad Robert Dussey, who paid an official visit to the island.
During the meeting in Havana, Rodriguez stressed the participation of Dussey at the International Conference “Cuba 2024 for the Decade of African Descendants,” representing the strong bilateral links between Caribbean nations and Africa.
The Cuban government official appreciated Togo’s constant solidarity and leadership at regional spaces in support of Cuba and its stance for the lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island nation.
Minister Rodriguez underscored the ever-lasting African imprint on Cuban identity, which inspired Cuban internationalists to join the African struggle against Colonialism and Apartheid.
“You can count on our joint work towards the strengthening of our fraternal bonds and the struggle to defend our nations’ right to development, sovereignty and peace, principles in tune with the United Nations Charter,” the Cuban official told his counterpart.
Dussey, on his part, recalled the crucial role played by Cuba in Africa and how Cuban soldiers made their contribution to the struggle for decolonization and dignification of the African continent.
The visitor reiterated his county’s support of Cuba and its determination to keep demanding the lifting of the US blockade and the withdrawal of Cuba from Washington’s list of states sponsors of terrorism, in all international forums.
He also expressed his government’s willingness to keep expanding bilateral cooperation to boost common goals and take relations to higher levels.
The Togolese official wound up his official agenda here on Monday after laying a wreath at the monument of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, at Havana’s Revolution Square.
As part of bilateral projects, Cuban and Togolese health experts worked together during the COVID-19 pandemic. Togolese youths have taken courses at Cuban institutions.
Cuba and Togo established diplomatic relations on January 18th, 1979.
