HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (ACN) The Cuba 2024 International Conference for the Decade of People of African Descent will be held from today until December 13, in Havana and Matanzas, with the purpose of making visible Cuba's commitment and work in the fight against racism and discrimination based on skin color and ethnic, national or territorial origin.
The event, under the slogan Justice, Equality and Social Equity, will be attended by a hundred participants from more than 20 countries, to exchange experiences among different regions on the confrontation and prevention of racism and discuss issues of inclusion, integration and respect for identities.
Plenary sessions and work in commissions will be held at the Havana Convention Center on the 9th and 10th, providing an opportunity for analysis, reflection and debate through panels and special interventions on the achievements, challenges and aspirations of the National Program Against Racism and Racial Discrimination, among other approaches in the international arena.
According to the program of the event, participants will visit communities, historical centers, educational institutions and sites of cultural interest.
The western city of Matanzas, on the 12th, will be visited by the delegates, including the museums of the Rebel Slave and the Enslaved People, as well as the communities of La Marina, Pueblo Nuevo and Alturas de Simpsom.
They will also visit the Quintin Bandera Cultural Center, headquarters of the Color Cubano Social Observatory; the headquarters of the Yoruba Cultural Association of Cuba and the Casa de Africa Museum.
The conference is dedicated to the closing of the Decade for People of African Descent, proclaimed by the UN from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2024, to the 50th anniversary of the presence in Cuba of the United Nations Population Fund and to the memory of the outstanding journalist, art critic and intellectual Pedro de la Hoz, winner of the Jose Marti National Journalism Award.
