Cuba restores its National Electric System

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (ACN) Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, announced in the early hours of this morning on X that the National Electric System (SEN) was restored after overcoming a new disconnection that affected the island on Wednesday.

The head of the sector confirmed in his statement that all the units that were in the process of starting up entered the system, except for unit 1 of the Lidio Ramon Perez Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE by its Spanish acronym), in Felton, which already has its boiler on and will synchronize in the next few hours.

At 2:08 a.m. this Wednesday there was a new disconnection of the SEN due to a fault registered in the CTE Antonio Guiteras, the largest in the country, located in the western province of Matanzas.

Roman Perez, deputy technical director of the Antonio Guiteras power plant, informed through the Cuban News Channel that the automatic control of the valve was solved, a failure that caused the unforeseen output of the thermoelectric power plant and the consequent SEN outage.
The competent authorities also explained that they are investigating the causes of this new disconnection of the SEN, the third one in the last two months.
