Cuban Court Meets Sanctioned in Liberty Conditions

Havana, Dec 3 (ACN) Members of the People’s Provincial Court in eastern Santiago de Cuba province met with sanctioned persons, who are about to meet their sanctions under liberty conditions, as part of a National Exercise to prevent and fight crimes, corruption, illegal actions and social indiscipline, underway nationwide these days.

The meetings, which were also joined by social workers, police officers and community leaders, focused on ways to have the sanctioned citizens reinserted into society once they meet their sentences.

Provincial Court president Yipsy Pedreira recalled the sanctioned people’s guarantees, rights and duties, and that they must keep appropriate behavior in work centers and communities to keep enjoying the benefit of liberty.

Pedreira referred to implementation of workshops with women, youths and community workers, cleaning and sanitation actions in healthcare centers, voluntary work sessions as part of initiatives to have them contribute to different programs, including cultural and recreational activities.

This is a way to evoke the humane side of justice so that the institution not only be conceived as the one enforcing sanctions, but also contributing to reinserting these people into their communities in an active and disciplined manner, said the court president.

During the meeting the sanctioned persons spoke their minds about the initiative, considering the workshops very useful for their current lives, particularly activities aimed at young people and women.
