Havana, Nov 29 (ACN) Cuba’s National Seismological Service reported a 2.9 perceptible tremor Friday morning in the eastern province of Guantanamo, after two quakes rocked eastern Cuba earlier this month.
The tremor was spotted at some 25 kilometers southeast of the Guantanamo locality of Niceto Perez—19.91 degrees north, 75.54 degrees west, at a 25-km depth.
On November 10, a 6.7 quake occurred in the municipality of Pilon, which rocked the provinces of Granma, Guantanamo and Santiago de Cuba, and was also felt from eastern Camaguey to central Cienfuegos province.
That tremor was followed by nearly 2000 aftershocks, 71 of which were presumably perceptible.
Since that day, the Seismologic Center has reported over six thousand aftershocks in the area.
