Cuban university students reassert commitment to justice and history

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 27 (ACN) With a solemn march in honor of the eight medical students unjustly executed by the Spanish colonialism 153 years ago, university students in the city of Santiago de Cuba ratified their commitment to social justice and Cuban history.

Roger Leyva, president of the Federation of University Students in the local medical school, stressed that they live on in the pinnacle of the eternal and the honor that exalting the memory of their irrationally extinguished lives means to the university community.

“Hatred separated those boys from their families and friends and denied them a promising future as health professionals; hence the need that we raise our voices every November 27 in their honor and in repudiation of the horrendous crimes being perpetrated today in the world”, Leyva remarked.

He pointed out how appropriate it is to reaffirm the support for a nation built by young people in the face of circumstances marked by ideological subversion and an increasingly harsh and inhumane blockade and urged all students to participate in urgent tasks such as food production, community engagement, development of scientific projects, and support to the work of health institutions to contribute to the preservation of our socialist achievements.

The students’ pilgrimage to the 26th of July School City, a symbol of heroism, resistance and bravery, students and professors of all education levels, along with a representation of the province’s indomitable people, reasserted their will to defend the Revolution, built with the blood and perseverance of generations of Cubans.
