Díaz-Canel receives executive of Sao Paulo Forum

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 17 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel received Monica Valente, executive secretary of the Sao Paulo Forum, who is paying a working visit to the island.

During their meeting, they discussed the need to regroup left-wing forces across the continent and strengthen unity to cope with the complex issues currently facing the region.

The president described Valente as a friend who, since 2014, has been in charge of the executive secretariat of this important group founded by Fidel and Lula in 1990 and which gathers leftist political parties and associations.

On her end, the visitor thanked Cuba for its support to the Forum and praised the island’s role in the effort to achieve unity in diversity.

While in Cuba, Ms. Valente also met and reviewed matters of common interest with Political Bureau member Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, who also thanked the Forum for its solidarity with Cuba’s struggle against both the blockade and its arbitrary inclusion in the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Launched in Sao Paulo by the Workers’ Party of Brazil in 1990, the Forum is a conference of left-wing political parties and organizations from the Americas, ranging from center-left reformists to political groups of the revolutionary left.
