After visiting communities and centers affected by the strong earthquakes that shook eastern Cuba on the 10th, and in direct exchange with residents and authorities, the president acknowledged the coherence and promptness in the actions of the provincial and municipal defense councils, State agencies and, especially, young people.
He also urged that the delivery of available materials for the rehabilitation of the damaged infrastructures should prevail. In this regard, the entry into the territory of 60 tons of cement and the forthcoming arrival of another 40 tons of cement was reported.
Yudelkis Ortiz Barcelo, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, detailed that, preliminarily, Granma has registered more than 8,000 damages to buildings in seven of its 13 municipalities.
In a briefing meeting after the tour, representatives of agencies such as Public Health and Education gave details on the work carried out to maintain the vitality of medical services at all times and to continue the school year as soon as possible.
Cuban president was accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee; Eduardo Martinez Diaz, Deputy Prime Minister; and Major General Ramon Pardo Guerra, Chief of the National General Staff of the Civil Defense.
