Havana, Nov 14 (ACN) The executive secretary of the Foro de Sao Paulo (FSP) regional organization, Monica Valente and Cuban Communist Party Organization Secretary Roberto Morales stressed in Havana the role of the island nation in the promotion of regional unity.
Morales conveyed the visiting FSP official greetings from President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who was touring the Cuban regions affected by Hurricane Rafael, according to an article on Granma newspaper.
The two officials addressed issues of mutual interest; Morales underscored the support of the Foro de Sao Paulo against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island nation and its inclusion on the US list of countries allegedly sponsors of terrorism.
As part of her working agenda here, Valente will meet with representatives of local organizations like the Cuban Women’s Federation and the Young Communist League.
Cuba’s Communist Party is a founding member of the Foro de Sao Paulo organization, which was set up in 1990 on the initiative of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro and Brazilian leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The founding meeting of the organization was held in Sao Paulo on July 2-4, 1990 having as priorities the promotion of unity and integration of the leftist forces in the struggle against imperialism; the defense of peace as a common goal for Our America, which was materialized through the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted in Havana, in 2014 by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
