Díaz-Canel mourns death of eminent Cuban forensic doctor

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel lamented the death of Dr. Jorge González Pérez, the eminent expert in Forensic Medicine who led the team that found the mortal remains of Che Guevara and his fallen comrades in Bolivia.

"It really hurts to lose such a brilliant, passionate and loyal scientist like Jorge González, known as Popi to all Cubans," the Head of State wrote in a message in which he highlighted that the deceased health care official was also a Labor Hero.

On his end, Minister of Health José Ángel Portal pointed out that the "beloved Popi" was a "paradigm of Medicine and Science in Cuba" and offered his condolences to the relevant scientist’s family, friends and colleagues on behalf of the Cuban health community.

Dr. González Pérez also served as director of the National Institute of Legal Medicine, rector of the Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana, and head of the Department of Medical Teaching of the Ministry of Public Health.
