SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 10 (ACN) Following two destructive earthquakes that struck off southeastern Cuba, the top provincial authorities urged the population to comply with the measures and instructions designed to protect people’s lives.
Beatriz Johnson, first secretary of the Communist Party in the province, reported partial damages in several municipalities and asked the residents to stay away from home while damage assessment efforts are under way in the region.
She praised people’s swift and responsible response, made possible by a deeply ingrained education about seismic activity, and called them to keep up with official reports to avoid the dissemination of fake news.
Cuba’s National Seismological Service has 24 stations throughout the country for the constant monitoring and surveillance of seismic activity and keeps up to date with related reports issued by similar institutions in Latin America.
