Díaz-Canel praises efforts of Cuba's electrical workers

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who chairs the National Defense Council, praised the efforts deployed by workers who managed to link up the National Power Grid (NPG) following its collapse Friday, ranging from the linemen to those who control and conduct the relevant processes.

In his message, Díaz-Canel commended their performance and dedication of the NPG’s 50,000-plus workers during the tense days leading up to the much-awaited resumption of the electricity service, calling their result “a true feat”.

The power system suffered a shutdown on Friday caused by the unexpected stoppage of the Antonio Guiteras power plant, Cuba’s largest and most efficient generating station. As a result, power microsystems were set up in every region as generating units came gradually into service until the complete synchronization of the national system was achieved on Monday.
