Unit 4 of thermoelectric power plant in start-up process in Cuban province

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Oct 22 (ACN) Unit No. 4 of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric power plant, in the central province of Cienfuegos, has been in the process of starting up for the last few hours, to join in the reestablishment of the National Electroenergy System (SEN).

Engineer Juan Bravo, technical director of that entity, told the Cuban News Agency that although that block was scheduled for a deep maintenance - which would take several months - they had to postpone these actions and carry out several actions to get it ready and return it to the generation, to alleviate the tense situation that now has the start-ups of the thermoelectric plants in the country and its synchronization to the SEN.

He explained that it is a slow process of equipment readiness, boiler start-up, heating of the turbine for six hours, followed by six hours of rest to level the temperature inside, which are processes that require several hours each, since it must be ready by the end of today.

This Japanese technology unit has a nominal capacity of 158 megawatts (MW), but with the damages its generation was reduced to less than one hundred MW.

As for unit three, which was in service when the SEN was affected last Friday, an evaluation is still pending to calculate the damage suffered in that block.
