Cuban regional micro power systems produce more than 700 MW

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 21 (ACN) Work is under way to set up self-contained microsystems across Cuba to provide more than 700 MW of electricity following the crash Sunday of the national power grid.

According to Eng. Lázaro Guerra Hernández, director of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), several of these power units are already operational in the western provinces and others will soon join the service in central and eastern Cuba.

On his end, Félix Estrada Rodríguez, director of the National Load Management Division, the Cuban Electrical Enterprise has embraced a new strategy based on the rearrangement by regions of the power generation system as units across the island are ready to join the national grid as one as soon as the usual unified system becomes operational again.

He remarked that the Cuban power grid has to be submitted to frequency regulation because some of its parameters are very unstable and impossible to be properly controlled.
