Cuba celebrates world rural women’s and food’s Days

 ARTEMISA, Cuba, Oct 16 (ACN) As part of the celebrations to commemorate both the International Day of Rural Women and World Food Day, Yamila Sarduy Martinez, member of the National Board of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) urged women members in this province to play a role in social development and food sovereignty and in the process of transformation of the Cuban countryside.

“It is imperative that we get involved in actions to promote the efficient exploitation of our land, diversify production, use wisely and save the available resources, and make the most of science, innovation and agro-ecology to cope with the challenge of producing the food we need,” she stressed

The celebration was hosted by the local Agricultural Production Cooperative “Niceto Pérez”, where workers recalled that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro visited them seven times, which they consider a privilege and a reason to commit themselves to the present and future generations of cooperative members, under the premise that “no obstacle is too big when there are women around”. They also denounced the U.S. blockade and expressed their solidarity with “the brotherly Palestinian people who are being unjustly massacred every day”.
