Turnat event, more than 20 years of commitment to Cuba's natural heritage

HAVANA, Cuba Sep 23 (ACN) Cuba has 286 nature tourism activities approved by the National Commission of Nature Tourism, which, in addition to its geographic wealth, makes the archipelago a potential destination for rural and accessible adventures.

An event like Turnat, entirely dedicated to this modality, has allowed for 13 editions the real contact with the natural attractions of the country, encouraging travelers and tour operators to take care of the flora, fauna and destinations that welcome them.

Since this gathering with authentic Cuban nature began at the beginning of this century, Turnat has visited places like Pinar del Rio (2000, 2005 and 2015), Cienfuegos (2002), Granma (2003 and 2013), Sancti Spiritus (2004), Baracoa (2007), the Zapata Swamp (2009), the central region (2011), the province of Holguin and the municipality of Baracoa (2017), the Central South of Cuba (2019) and the West in 2022.

In its journey through these destinations, the event has made it possible to enjoy World Heritage Sites and biosphere reserves, as well as geoparks, national parks, plant communities and places with high endemism of species.

According to data from the Ecotur S.A. Travel Agency, one of the organizers of the Turnat along with the Ministry of Tourism, Cuba also has more than 20,000 caves, around 4,000 small islands and some 400 local development projects linked to the protection of flora and fauna.

In its 14th edition, the event will take place in 85 destinations distributed in three provinces of eastern Cuba: Santiago de Cuba, Granma and Guantanamo.

Participants will visit places that contribute to the development of agrotourism and are part of important Cuban natural and historic sites such as the Pico Real del Turquino, the Sierra Maestra, Las Coloradas Beach, the Gran Piedra Geopark and the Il and III Eastern Front, and will take center stage with the cassava and sugarcane route in Granma.

Turnat has become the most important event for nature tourism, as it allows identifying new attractions and products, and building catalogs to attract clients.

For those who participate, it is an opportunity to learn first-hand about Cuban nature and the protocols to protect it, and to understand the importance of having tourism offers of this kind in the promotion of each destination.
