HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) With a view to the oncoming Summit of the Future, the office of the Cuban Association of the United Nations hosted a meeting to discuss issues such as the digital and technological gap, attended by staff members of the UN Cuba Office and the Ministry of Communications (MINCOM), as well as by leaders of the Young Computer Clubs, the Young Communist League, the University of Havana, and the Union of IT Specialists.
MINCOM first deputy minister Wilfredo González Vidal pointed out that joint international cooperation is key to bridge the current digital gap as Cuba takes steps to facilitate access to the Internet.
Other participants referred to the preparations for a digital governance platform for people to state their concerns and views about government management and for which cooperation between state and non-state entities should be increased in order to make the most of various useful projects designed by Cuban SMEs.
Other roundtables addressed matters related to global governance and multilateralism, youth leadership, and the engagement of young people in the construction of a better world.
The Summit of the Future, to be held on September 22-23, will provide a forum to share views about the aforesaid and other topics that Cuba will present to the world.
