Lunar partial eclipse starts tonight



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) A partial lunar eclipse will take place from tonight until the following day, the Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy announced in Havana.

The phenomenon can be observed throughout the national territory, the institution said, referring to the event that happens when the moon gets in the way of sunlight and casts its shadow on Earth.

According to its information to the Cuban News Agency, the area of the world where it will be visible also corresponds to Europe, Africa and almost all America, except its westernmost part.

Regarding Cuba, it will begin at 20 hours 39.3 minutes (m) on September 17, the Moon's entry into the umbra (inner and darkest part of a shadow) of the Earth at 22h 11.8m and its maximum exposure at 22h 44.2m.
It will conclude at 23h 16.7m and the penumbra at 00h 49.2m on Wednesday, corresponding to summer time in the Republic of Cuba.

The Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy is one of the 22 centers attached to the Environment Agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
