HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (ACN) The 5th International Mining and Metallurgy Congress (Minimetal 2024) and the 1st Foreign Investment and Business Forum will begin tomorrow the first of its three-day sessions at the Plaza America Convention Center, in Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas.
The promoters of both events are the Research Center for the Mining and Metallurgical Industry (Cipimm by its Spanish acronym) and the Salt Mining Business Group (Geominsal by its Spanish acronym), of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Marcela de los Angeles Figueredo Frias, vice president of its Organizing Committee, also informed that they seek to expand and strengthen relations between scientific communities, facilitate the exchange between Cuban and foreign research groups in joint scientific and technological research projects.
In addition, to promote the linking of research and technological development centers, science, technology and innovation entities and universities with the Cuban, mixed-capital and foreign business sector, she added in exclusive statements to the Cuban News Agency.
Figueredo Frias pointed out that the strategy is based on the importance for the country of the exploration, exploitation and metallurgical processing of nickel laterites, gold, copper, zinc and polymetallic deposits, among others.
Likewise, the exploitation and processing of industrial minerals and construction materials, the use of mining and metallurgical techniques, she argued. According to the joint program, its main topics are related to the evaluation of potential, prospecting and exploration of mineral resources, experiences in exploration, exploitation and processing of metallic and non-metallic minerals, including those carrying rare earth and platinum group elements.
