Havana, Sept 10 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel welcomed at Havana’s Revolution Palace visiting US activist Gail Walker, executive secretary of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO)—Pastors for Peace, which has organized humanitarian caravans to Cuba defying the US economic, commercial and financial blockade.
Walker, daughter of departed Pastors for Peace founder, the Reverend Lucius Walker, is accompanied by 12 US youths who will start their medical courses at Cuba’s Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), according to the X account of the Cuban Presidency.
Some 234 US students have graduated from the Cuban medical school since 2000, when the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro granted the first scholarships to the US youths, backed by the Pastors for Peace religious group.
The activist said that the grads are practicing a humanistic kind of medicine in her country.
