Diplomatic corps accredited to Cuba to honor African and Caribbean heroes



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 9 (ACN) Representatives of the African and Caribbean diplomatic corps laid floral tributes to honor the heroes of those regions.

The commemorative ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of the different African countries and the Caribbean region, as well as representatives of the Cuban Friendship Institute, among other guests.

Humphrey Hesron Polepole, ambassador of Tanzania to Cuba pointed out that Africa and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have a shared history of struggle for colonial liberation and mutual support.

He pointed out that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the Cuban people sent more than 200,000 combatants to fight in different countries of the African continent: Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Ethiopia, Guinea and Algeria, among others.

He stressed that the duty of those present at the meeting is to work strategically so that the people they represent can enjoy economic freedom and partnerships between the African continent and CARICOM.

Wendy Palaus-Aminta, Ambassador of Suriname, emphasized the need to work together and seek benefits to be stronger and build a bright future for all.

Ellsworth I. A. John and Omar Buslan, ambassadors of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic presided over the laying of the wreaths.

Africa and the Caribbean are historically linked not only by the struggle for independence or cooperation between nations, their closeness also includes the culture, traditions and ideodyncrasy of their people.
