HOLGUIN, Cuba, Sep 4 (ACN) In the context of the Peace Conference against the Blockade and Terrorism, students from the province of Holguin demanded the end of the coercive measures imposed by the U.S. on the island.
Their appeal took place as part of the actions organized every year by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), which will continue until the next vote at the United Nations General Assembly on the Cuban resolution calling for the end of the said U.S. policy.
ICAP provincial director Lupe Fernandez Ramirez said that the Conference, whose goal has always been to seek international unity for the benefit of the rights of every human being to justice, equity and mutual respect, is especially dedicated this year to condemn the genocidal war that Israel is waging against the Palestinian people, the U.S. blockade of Cuba, and the inclusion of the island in the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Featured in the Conference program, among other solidarity activities, are various events in remembrance of the 26th anniversary of the arrest of the Cuban Five, the 48th anniversary of the Crime of Barbados, and the 57th anniversary of the death of Ernesto Guevara.
The Conference is organized every year since September 4 as a tribute to the young Italian Fabio di Celmo, murdered that day in 1997 at the Copacabana Hotel in one of a wave of terrorist attacks targeting Cuban tourist facilities.
