Over One Million Students Back to School in Cuba

Havana, Sept 2 (ACN) Over 10 thousand education centers throughout Cuba opened their doors Monday to some 1.6 million students for the new 2024-2025 school year.

In a message on X, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated children and youths on this special day and greeted all teachers and workers in the Education sector.

National Assembly president Esteban Lazo and Communist Party Organization Secretary Roberto Morales also used their X accounts to stress the significance of this day, which marked the beginning of a new school year on the island.

The central rally for the beginning of the school year was held at the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara sculpture complex in central Santa Clara city with the participation of Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and deputy Premier Jorge Luis Perdomo.

In her remarks at the event, Education Minister Naima Trujillo called for the implementation of a pedagogical development model bringing education and science together to form integral citizens, who are committed to the country’s social project.

Trujillo recalled all efforts made by education authorities to achieve the appropriate conditions for the new course, including the necessary number of teachers. She also insisted in the importance of the subject of History and the joint work of the families, the community and school staffs to guarantee high-quality education.lc
