HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 1 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez criticized the international media’s disregard for the damage caused to his country by the alleged “Havana syndrome”, a media construction discredited even within the United States.
The head of state quoted a recent CNN news report stating that the National Institutes of Health shut down Havana Syndrome research citing unethical coercion of participants.
“The false Havana syndrome no longer supports any study, but the mainstream media forget to mention that it was a vile pretext to include Cuba in the list of sponsors of terrorism and to reinforce the genocidal blockade with more than 240 measures,” the Cuban leader wrote.
Díaz-Canel also recalled that the U.S. blockade was strengthened by Donald Trump (2017-2021) and kept in place by the Biden Administration.
The excuse of alleged damages to the health of the U.S. embassy staff in Havana was used by American right-wingers and the Cuban-American mafia to justify tighter sanctions against Cuba, as they did the deceitful assertion, repeatedly dismissed by renowned foreign and Cuban scientists, that Russia and China are a threat to world security, Cuban daily Granma reported the day before.
The NIH announced on Friday the end of its work “out of an abundance of caution” after an internal investigation found that people had been coerced into being part of the research.
