Cuban radar system links to international project

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 25 (ACN) Specialists from the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA) applauded the steps to get Cuba’s Centro Nacional de Radares (CNR) linked to the international project Euroclima.

Supported by UNDP with funds provided by the European Union and the French Development Agency, the initiative aims to improve disaster risk reduction measures in the country with a view to tackling climate change and coping with the dangers of floods and droughts in the island.

According to CNR director Didier Eduardo Suarez Rodriguez, the project includes Cuba’s rainfall-related figures in its data, which will not only make it possible to come up with more accurate rain forecasts but also calibrate the radar for the benefit of the Cuban surveillance system for drought and flood events and the country’s Early Warning System.

Nowadays, thanks to the innovative work of its engineers and technicians, Cuba relies on a fully automated system made up of eight units that cover the national territory and its and adjacent seas.
