SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) Just when the former town of Espiritu Santo celebrates this June 4 its 510th anniversary of foundation, the Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power takes place in this city, with the presence of Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba.
The session, which was also attended by Ana Maria Mari Machado, member of the Central Committee and vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, took place in the midst of symbols dear to the people of Sancti Spiritus such as the original machete of Major General Serafin Sanchez Valdivia, the model of the foundational site, the Coat of Arms of the City and a miniature replica of its three architectural jewels.
In accordance with the current conditions that the nation is going through, since May 31, several activities have been taking place in this town in the center of the island, including this Solemn Session and the cultural gala that on the night of June 3 honored Sancti Spiritus and its people through music, dance and words.
According to researchers, the former village of the Holy Spirit was founded on June 4, 1514, on the banks of the Tuinucu River, but in 1522 it moved to the banks of the Yayabo, where it grew and developed into an attractive city with its eaves and heritage buildings, its main parish church and the Casa Museo La Guayabera (Guayabera House Museum).
