HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, conveyed his admiration and sympathy to Claudia Sheinbaum for her victory in her election as president of Mexico.
In a telephone conversation, Cuban head of state confirmed the willingness to move forward in areas of mutual interest for bilateral relations, as reported on X.
On the same social network, the new Mexican president thanked the call and stressed that Mexico and Cuba are sister nations, united by cooperation, solidarity and shared history.
Sheinbaum achieved victory to become the first woman to sit as president of this nation.
The result was confirmed early Monday morning by Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) in its quick count, according to which Sheinbaum obtained between 58.3 and 60.7 percent of the vote, while her closest challenger, Xochitl Galvez, achieved estimated ranges between 26.6 and 28.6 percent.
